My New Car Tax Disc

My New Car Tax Disc

Today my car tax bill came:

£121 for 6 months or £220 for 12 months.

Last year it was about £103 for 6 months.

I am rather annoyed.

The roads are full of holes. I had to do an emergency stop the other day and drive around one hole.

The result will be that many people will simply not be able to afford to pay the road tax and as such will not bother with MOT or insurance. In other words by putting up the tax, it is likely that the government will in fact get less cash. It also means that there will be more cars on the road that are not road safe or have insurance. The result will probably mean car insurance then goes up – and when it does even less people will be able to pay it.

This is the logic of low tax, in that people have more cash to spend and thus go out and spend. The result is that shops (and so on) make more profit and thus pay more tax and employ more staff, thus employment is low and your not paying so much out in benefits.

Today we now have people who work and have nothing at the end due to the huge bills and are far worse off than those who do not work. Carole Malone [LINK] does have a point that those who live very well on benefits will be resented more and more by those who work and have nothing. In deed as things get worse (mortgage payments will increase and house prices drop, with many loosing there homes) those on benefits will be the targets of hate. The media has been targeting such people for a few years now with the BBC and daily mail posting stories about people claiming disability while being fine.

To be honest if they were legal to use on UK roads I would not have a car but just but a petrel or electric scooter (the type you stand on not a disability one). They would be perfect, cheap and quick. One thing that may be an option is an electric bike, as they are legal and if the battery dies you just pedal. But to be honest I have not seen one I like.

As for the bus or train. Sod that. Last time I looked it was about £5 to use a bus for a day. I can go 60 miles in my car for £5. In fact I can put £5 in my car and it will last me all week. As for the train its £100 or so from Leeds to London. Well I can hire an expensive car and fuel it for the day and its still cheaper, plus if there is a few of you its much easer to hire a car.

Last year my car was in for an MOT and I had to go from my home to Morley. This was two busses, then as no bus went to were I needed to go it was a 45 min walk (in the ran). Then on my way home I found no busses ran at night so I had to get a taxi home.

A few years ago I went to Manchester on the train. I came back and stopped to see a friend (Robert) who I had not seen for years. I left his home and found the trains were on strike. I was 40 or so miles from home, and it was raining, and I had no idea where I was. I had to phone someone to pick me up.

I really do not understand why people use public transport, surly its cheaper and easer to just drive, or even just cycle.

To be honest I am fed up of just paying tax on this tax for that, fine for this fine for that.

By the way (I keep saying this) if you have a house your bought (say in the last ten years when prices were high) you may want to think about selling it. House prices I suspect will drop, and drop a lot. Its probably better to make a small loss now than end up in a few years paying a huge mortgage on a house that’s worth nothing. My mate (who works for a bank) says people even now are just walking away as they are paying almost twice what the house is worth.

To finish off, this story will cheer you up. In Manchester they have a system were when a bus goes down a bus lane some bollards drop, then shoot up when the bus passes. Basically they smash your car up. Well you would think the police would know about them. Well these two did not [LINK] and smashed up a police BMW. What will be interesting is will they be prosecuted, as the council say they prosecute people who do this. Lets face it, you or me would probably prosecuted, but I think we all know these two will not be (but I may be wrong). Anyway enjoy the pics.
